Sport in Užice is an essential part of everyday life.In the year 2007 there were 60 clubs, within 26 sports branches with the total number of 4877 registered sportsmen. The list of active clubs and the members of the Sports unions of Utica can be downloaded here.
Athletics
Užice is the biggest athletic centre in Serbia.The biggest names of our athletics such as
Olivera Jevtić, Mirko Petrović, Danijel Vukajlović, Snežana Kostić, Marija Papić, Nikola Stamenić and the others , that have won the highest awards and medals on the European and world competitions, have been the members of the clubs "Mladost" and "Užice"
Basketball
Užice is proud of its basketball tradition which is more than 60 years old.Basketball useed to be played in the old “Sokolana”(gymnasium) and later in the sports hall in Veliki Park(the Big park).The male team from Uzice used to play under different names such as Sloboda, Raketa, Sevojnoand in the mid 1980s the most important results in the history of Utica basketball were achieved. In the season 1987/88 the team of Prvi Partizan managed to be in the first basketball league of the "big " Jugoslavia.In that season, in the most powerful league in Europe(according to many people) , the spectators from Uzice had a chance to watch the club Cibona where the brothers Petrović played, as well as Nakić and Čutura,then Jugoplastika with Kukoč,Rađa, Ivanović and Perasovic, Partizan with Divac, Paspalj, Đorđević and Grbović, Zvezda with Janković, Radovic and Žižić, Zadar with Komazec,Vranković and Petrović etc.The dress of Prvi Partizan was then worn by Slavenko Marić,Sreten Đurić, Slobodan Arnautović, Milan Zečević, Nebojša Matić, Aleksandar Pavlović, Nikola Jokanović etc.
This brilliant generation of players led by Petar Rodic succeeded in playing for the Kup Radivoja Koraća in 1992 but due to the sanctions it never got a chance to play in Europe.
Unfortunately , male basketball hasn’t had any significant results in the last 15 years. But it must be mentioned that numerous pplayers from Uzice have been doing well in other clubs : Branko Milisavljević, Miroslav Radošević, Vladislav Dragojlović, Nikola Otašević, Slavko Stefanović etc.
Nowadays the basketball players from Uzice compete in the Serbian league – group West.
Female basketball club Sevojno used to play in the first league of the former Yugoslavia. Today the female players of the club Play Off compete in the Ib league.
Football
Užice is a city of football.That fact can be confirmed by a long tradition of this sport in the city on the Djetinja river as well as a big number of children who still run for the colourful "ladybird".
Nowadays there are 8 football clubs: Sloboda, Sevojno, Jedinstvo, Zlatibor, Prvi Partizan, Siti, Tara and Bioska.
Football club Sloboda is the oldest and the most important football club from Utica. It was founded in 1925. Sloboda(Freedom) has been a sports "favourite" of the city of Uzice through the history , the institution which served for the many to identify with, and the club which gave to Serbia dozens of players that left the trace to remember. Radomir Antić, Nemanja Vidić, Milovan Đorić, Zoran Njeguš, Miloš Marić, Ivan Vukomanović, Rešad Kunovac, Miroslav Pavlović, Petar Krivokuća, Darko Belojević, Srboljub Stamenković, Radiša Ilić, Miroslav Vukašinović, Slobodan Dogandžić, Goran Pandurovic and many others originated in Sloboda and played for this club.
Sloboda has played in almost all levels of competition. During 1990s it was a member of the First federal league. Today Sloboda competes in the Serbian league-group West.
The coach school from Uzice has been known within the European frames.
Radomir Antić, the most renowned Serbian coach, is the only in the history of football who coached the three biggest Spanish clubs - Barcelona, Real and Athletic.
Milovan Đorić,who used to be the selector of the national team of Yugoslavia, is the director of the Coach school of the Football association of Serbia.
Miroslav Vukašinović, Slobodan Dogandžić, Ivan and Milan Čančarević are also some of the famous coaches.
Srboljub Srbo Stamenković
Srbo Stamenković was the unsurpassable sports favourite from Užice. As so many people described him, he was the biggest talent " that Serbia had ever seen ".After playing for Sloboda he also played for
The Red Star from 1975 to 1981.He didn’t manage to use his talent on the green field(football pitch) , but he did it in the USA where he played for Baltimore and he was proclaimed the best player of indoor football ever . After the career in the USA he returned to Uzice which he preferred. He died in an accident in 1996.
Uzice will never forget him.

Sports family Vesnić has been the trademark of this sport in our country for more than 3 decades.
Milun Vesnić is the driver with the most trophies in former Yugoslavia.
He was the first in the country 18 times and he had 144 victories in his career.
He won a diamond hamlet , the highest award in this sport on the territory of Serbia.
Milun’s successor , Milovan Vesnić je has been the winner on round tracks 6 times, and he was given the gold helmet.
He made the records on all the round tracks in our country.
Vićentije Savić, Vladan Dubljanin and Žarko Terzić are also the big names of this sport .
