Mokra Gora

Mokra GoraMokra Gora is the most attractive tourist - museum railroad in Europe and is mentioned as unique construction masterpiece in the world, among narrow - gauge lines. It used to connect Belgrade with Sarajevo and Dubrovnik, and it was put into operation on 2 February 1925. The problem of 300 m difference in altitude between Mokra Gora and Sargan and the 3.5 km distance was solved in a unique, and only possible way - with an unusual railway line loop in the form of number 8. This exceptional line is 13.5 km long, 22 tunels have been constructed along the line (the longest one below Sargan bearing the name of Alexander the First ), 5 bridges (the longest 44.30 m long on the River Kamesina) and viaducts.
The railway line closed in 1974.

ZTP Belgrade has stared with the restoration of this railway in the year 1999 and made it for tourist purposes. Thanks to the very strenuous engagement of the people of ZTP, this part of our history has been stolen from the forgetting it. The words of the famous prophet, so-called Serbian Nostradam, Mitar Tarabic, said at the end of XIX century: "Many years will pass before the people will recall again of the steal road, so they shouldst again make this road. Only with its road to Visegrad the people will not travel for the job or their need, but people will travel for fun, relaxation and enjoyment."

A special contribution to the promotion of Mokra Gora was made by our famous film director Emir Kusturica who shot his film " Life is a Miracle " there. Having built an ethno - village on the hill of Mecavnik, Emir became a resident of Mokra Gora.

Reviving the ancient houses of the region, the architect and creator of a perfect life that is out of the ordinary, Emir Kusturica, has built a town. Mecavnik is a universe on its own, which at first glance you will perceive as orchestrated and cuddled upon a terrain centuries old with each house being set by a hand of an old craftsman, settling into its ideal place as each year passes by. Thus, a Town that offers you features for an unforgettable holiday, bussines trip or a day break is a haven you will always be coming back to. The streets of Mecavnik are exciting to walk through at any period of the year as each season avails different pleasures and separate view of previous memory. The streets bare the names os distinctive artists, sportsmen and other great individuals who, through their ideas or accomplishments, have left or are still leaving a mark oin the history our humankind.

As does any other town, so does Kustendorf have central square and in it a St. Sava Church, the Mesa Selimovic Library, and The Stanley Cubric Movie Theater with the most advanced and latest picture and sound quality in the world. Just across the square id the Macola Gallery which hosts most renowned local and foreign artists, and right next door there is the national restaurant Lotika standing opposite a coffe and cake bar Kod Corkana ( at Corkan’s), not forgetting the colorful and irreplaceable Souvenir Shop Aska. Not far away, at the Diego Armando Maradona Square, you will find a sports center The Damned Alley which on it’s ground has an Inn, an Italian Restaurant, a gym, indoor pool, indoor basketball and volleyball court, saunas, billiard room and a night club. Encompassed in the various offers are a trim path, and some 7 km from the city is the skiing center. The necessities which today’s life instructs, such as wireless internet, do however exist at Kustendorf. What you cannot find at Mecavnik are two exactly the same rooms, as each has a uniquely painted and decorated furniture and interior, an inimitable view through the window, and a unique way to reach the room, apartment or detached house of your choice. In all of them though, there is one single standard – a safe, relaxing and peaceful dream in a comfortable and cozy bed.

At the breakout and during the Second World War there used to be one of the first country schools. The other house is 100 yeras old and adapted for the needs of country tourism into three-room suite with the elements of ethno style. The house in which there used to be a school is expected to be a museum.
